Serious criticisms about organizational diversity, equity and inclusion efforts have been leveled periodically over the last 3.5 years in response to the increased focus on the topic in the wake of George Floyd’s murder. However, the questions raised by DEI critics present potential opportunities for innovation, not deletion. If we can apply the inclusive leadership practice of engaging in dialogue and open debate so we can see the issue from all sides, the practices will get better.

Egon Zehnder’ Directors Development Program held a session on this topic led by Sunil Mehta, former Chair of PNB and Yes Bank, in which he shared his insights, knowledge, and experience navigating various crises at the highest level of corporate governance.

On the panel were Subhash Khuntia, former chair IRDAI (Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India), and N S Vishwanathan, former deputy governor of RBI and currently chair of Axis Bank.

The event, titled “Board Processes,” featured Sanjiv Sachar, Independent Director & NRC Chair at HDFC Bank and a former partner at Egon Zehnder, who imparted lessons on areas such as agenda-setting, facilitating discussions, meetings and minutes, and the overall systems that help a board to become as effective and efficient as possible.
A new session of Egon Zehnder’s Directors Development Program took a holistic look at board management to uncover “The Best Practices of High- Performing Boards.” It was led by Dinesh Khara, chairman of the State Bank of India and a veteran of board leadership for over a decade. Khara discussed the various factors that shape a board’s effectiveness, from its long-term vision to specific responsibilities to agenda setting.
A new session of Egon Zehnder’s Directors Development Program examined the best practices for board evaluation and review, underscoring the importance of this vital yet sometimes misunderstood process. Leading the discussion was former Egon Zehnder Senior Partner Sanjiv Sachar, who now sits on the boards of KDDL and Info Edge, and earlier was the NRC Chair at HDFC Bank.
